About the brand
Klaviyo was founded in 2012 by Andrew Bialecki and Ed Hallen to address the gap between marketing and customer data. They built a CRM platform specifically for B2C brands. In fact, Klaviyo claims to be the only CRM built just for B2C. Today, more than 169,000 brands use Klaviyo to improve how they connect with their customers. Klaviyo began as a customer database tool and quickly expanded to include email and SMS marketing, eventually growing into the full CRM platform it is ...today. Some of its well-known customers include Unilever, Mattel, Dollar Shave Club, and Vans. Its core features include marketing automation through email and SMS, advanced customer segmentation, AI-driven personalization, and a centralized customer hub to support better service. Klaviyo also offers over 350 pre-built integrations with popular e-commerce platforms, helping brands get a complete view of their customers in one place. Read more

Our Verdict
Klaviyo is an intuitive, comprehensive, and user-friendly CRM for B2C brands that largely focuses on email and SMS marketing. It integrates with hundreds of other apps and sources for importing and exporting data. Powered with AI features, it automates many of the regular CRM functions, like crafting emails, making workflows, and responding to queries.
The best thing about it is its reporting dashboard, offered with all plans. It provides data on customers that can help with personalization and lead conversion. Plus, it’s well-suited for businesses undertaking multi-channel marketing.
That all said, it has somewhat of a learning curve, at least for individuals who haven’t dabbled with marketing tools before. But the Help Centre can help you master it in no time.

Products & Pricing
Klaviyo’s pricing model is based on the number of active profiles and the number of SMS/MMS you want to send. There’s a free tier with limited resources that may be useful for very small, niche retailers. In addition to the core CRM product, it offers paid tools like Reviews, Marketing Analytics, and Advanced Customer Data Platform (CDP).
Here are the different pricing plans for Klaviyo:
- Free: The free tier is only for 250 active profiles and includes 500 monthly emails, 150 SMS/MMS monthly credits, email support (only 60 days), and a reporting dashboard.
- Email: The Email plan includes 5,000 emails per month, generative AI for email crafting, 350+ integrations, and some analytics. It starts at $20 per month.
- Email + SMS: This plan includes SMS/MMS credits based on your needs, and the price goes up with the number of credits. It also comes with extra features like multi-channel attribution, A/B testing, and the removal of the Klaviyo logo. This is the recommended plan and starts at $35 per month for 150 SMS/MMS credits.
In addition to the plans, here are the different tools offered and their pricing:
- Reviews: This tool collects and analyzes reviews from customers. It’s priced based on monthly orders, starting at $25 per month for brands with 250 or fewer orders.
- Marketing Analytics: This tool takes analytics to the next level with more granular, multi-channel insights that help unravel customer behavior. It’s priced based on active profiles and starts at $100 per month.
- Advanced Data Platform: A step up from Marketing Analytics, this tool allows you to import data into other platforms. It starts at $500/month for up to 100,000 total profiles.

Features & Functionality
Klaviyo is a cloud-based platform accessible through the web on both desktop and mobile devices. Here are some of the main features of Klaviyo:
AI Writer and Flows AI
Klaviyo’s CRM has an integrated AI writer to create emails and SMS copy for marketing with simple prompts. This is handy when you must spin up quick emails to take advantage of specific trends or moments. You can also use this tool to create workflows (Flows AI). Just select a flow option and, in simple words, describe what needs to happen if a particular event occurs.
Klaviyo Customer Hub
This feature uniquely blends customer service with marketing by providing a personalized self-service portal for shoppers. Customers can track orders, initiate returns, discover personalized product recommendations, and access FAQs. It also integrates with customer service functionalities like a unified inbox for agents.
AI-Powered Segmentation
Klaviyo simplifies the customer segmentation process with its AI capabilities. You can describe the desired customer group in natural language (e.g., “engaged profiles in the last 30 days” or “someone who viewed a product but didn’t purchase in 60 days”), and Klaviyo’s AI will automatically generate the segment conditions. I appreciate this feature because it streamlines the entire segmentation process, so actions can be taken quickly (like reaching out to specific customers with an offer).
A/B Testing
Klaviyo’s email marketing tool comes with built-in A/B testing to test different layouts, subjects, and body text to see which one has the most impact. Thanks to the segmentation, it’s easy to test different emails. You can also specify the testing strategy (Winning Strategy for standard A/B testing or personalized strategy, which tests the email impact specific to the recipient).
Ease of Use
Although Klaviyo’s dashboard is well-designed, the platform as a whole requires some initial learning and exploring. That’s mainly because there are a lot of different tools and features at your disposal. Finding and using them may require some time, especially for new users unfamiliar with advanced marketing platforms. However, once you get used to the layout and functions, managing campaigns and tracking results becomes much easier.
The company provides a dedicated Help Center for this purpose with articles and tutorials for specific tools, features, and functions. A simple Google search or direct search on the Help Center brings you to the required topic.
The platform may be fairly easy to use for experienced marketers who have worked with CRMs or email marketing tools.
Contacts & Users
One of the best things about Klaviyo is that it maintains contacts and users as singular profiles, even if they come from different lists or channels. This is very useful for brands interacting with and receiving customers from various channels.
The platform is intelligent enough to uniquely identify an individual and unify their contact details and interactions in one place. For example, if a person is in your email and social media lists, Klaviyo won’t have two different records of them. Instead, it will create a dedicated profile for them with all the contact information you’ve gathered from them.
Through the profile page, you can track contacts and manage leads. It tracks user activities, such as ‘opened email,’ which can be helpful for tracing where a user has reached in the sales pipeline.
Similarly, you can also track key metrics for profiles like products viewed, fulfilled orders, and tickets resolved. It also lets you identify your most active and loyal profiles/customers with these metrics, so you can continue to retain them.
Reporting & Integration
Klaviyo offers intuitive reporting features designed to help e-commerce businesses clearly understand their marketing performance and customer behavior.
Marketers can access pre-built dashboards that provide at-a-glance insights into key metrics for email, SMS, and mobile push campaigns, including open rates, click-through rates, and conversions.
Beyond the basic reports, Klaviyo also allows you to create custom reports. You can look at specific areas like product performance, flow effectiveness, or audience engagement over time.
As for integrations, Klaviyo CRM offers 350+ integrations, which further enhance its capabilities. It can get data from different sources and import it as well to other marketing tools. These integrations also allow for personalized experiences across different channels.
Customer Service
Klaviyo offers a few customer support options. Existing customers can use live chat and a ticketing system around the clock. However, phone support is only available for prospective customers. Response times are typically under 24 hours.
Klayivo’s Help Center has articles and tutorials on how to use the CRM and its different tools and features. Additionally, Klaviyo Community contains posts from customers, particular marketing experts, and discussions from users, and its blogs provide detailed guides, best practices, and the latest in marketing.
